Greencastle Service Pride Day (G.S.P.D)

The Elegua Chapter of Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc. at DePauw University launched the first annual Greencastle Service Pride Day (G.S.P.D). Our chapter believes the DePauw and Greencastle communities do not have a strong connection when it comes to appreciating and acknowledging the businesses that provide for diverse society. Currently, there has been a divide among both the Greencastle and DePauw communities by there not being as much support and reaching out for building a stronger connection.

After every school year, students depart to their perspective cities, countries, and towns. As a result, Greencastle is forgotten for the time being until students return for the next school term, so we would like to change that constant outlook. As an organization chartered at DePauw, but situated in the city of Greencastle we felt responsible for taking part in forgetting our remarkable city too. Therefore, we approached students, families, and local organizations as a whole to join us as we organized a revolutionary event that will ultimately bridge connections, and benefit the people of Greencastle.

This event consisted of having students from DePauw, and other volunteers who signed-up, assist local businesses in the square with any projects and services to support in making it better. After we help serve as many businesses with what they need, we provided free food and came together as one big community to work on a mural that will will later be a memorial of COMMUNITY VALUE to symbolize community unification between DePauw and Greencastle.
