Them Elegua Boyz know how to get things poppin, and have you wanting to turn up on a Tuesday! However, this year, the HYPE starts on a Monday and runs Oooh Sooo SMOOTH into the weekend. So with the powers of the TURN UP vested in us, we bring to you an Epic week of events that will have you never wanting to TURN DOWN! So get ready to be HYPE and make this week memorable.

FOUR TWENTY 

6:30pm | Peeler Auditorium

 

This event will focus on the taboo topic of marijuana. Should it or should it not be legalized? We will discuss the pros and cons and the history of its usage. There will also be a short presentation and discussion by a botanist, Dr. Dana Dudle, regarding the scientific background of the plant.

 

 

TUES.Apr. 21st

 

R.E.A.L. Smooth Co-hosted with R.E.A.L. Poets 

5:30pm | Watson Forum

 

This will be competition where poets and musicians will be competing against each other to see who is the REALIST! There will be two sections where poets will bring their voices, and musicians will express themselves with their instruments. Special guest David Quinones from the Uman Chapter of Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity Inc. will be performing, along one the smoothest brothers of the Elegua Chapter Howard Robinson. Professor Carren Wembly will also be a special guest judge. 1st place winners will receive a special prize and walk away with bragging rights.

 

 

WED.Apr. 22nd

 

AIDS Walk Greencastle 

5:30pm | Reese Hall Lawn

 

This is an annual Philanthropic event that is held by the Elegua Chapter, which serves to help promote HIV/AIDS awareness to both the Depauw and Greencastle communities. After the walk, participants will be able to enjoy a meal and good company at our barbeque, which will serve as a thank you for all of our supporters.

 

College POZitive 

6:00pm | Reese Hall Lobby BBQ Food will be served

 

This is an educational workshop that will give participants an idea of what its like to be a student leader living with HIV. Founding brother of the Elegua Chapter, John Yaters, a.k.a., El Papi de de los papis, will provide you with his own insight and also be the facilitator of the conversation that will take place following the presentation.

 

THUR.Apr.23rd

 

Our History Through Music w/ Dennis Febo from Guazabara Insights

In this workshop, one of our smoothest brothers of Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity Inc., Dennis Febo from Guazabara Insights, will come to talk about the various cultural influences that have impacted the music we listen to today.

 

Pie-A-Greek

Have you always wanted to throw a pie in someone’s face, let alone a Greek? Well, if this has been something you’ve been waiting for, come out and show us what you got. Organizations taking part in this event are Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Omega Phi Beta Sorority Inc., and Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc.
